This is the house where I rode out the storm. It's only a block from the river, but has the unique distinction of being nine feet above sea level. That nine feet is very significant. My friend whose family owns this home, sent me tons of happy photos of the snow. And told me my little McGehee Girls were out on St. Charles laughing and playing in it. The streetcars are draped now with holiday greenery and big red bows. Snow was gently falling.
It is a magical place, New Orleans.
I can almost smell the gingerbread. And I am promised pictures of a favorite decorated house off Oak Street.
So a little delight. More tea and tissues here. And me wishing you a lovely weekend. Yep. Go find some naughty. I'll be here with the tissues hopefully painting a bit too. And smiling at snowflakes dancing.
Very pretty...
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon Janice!
Wow--what a peaceful, serene, snowy image. That house is lovely. I heard about them getting snow and thought of you. I don't know anyone else from there. I wondered if it made you homesick...Be well...hope you feel better soon--lots of warm soups and teas and plenty of zzzzzz's....
ReplyDeleteHi guys. Feeling a little better. This house is way old. Lots of history. There are camelias there that are older than I am. And yes. I am so homesick it is ridiculous. These silly lungs of mine are very risky there right now, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait for the picture of the house from Eagle Street. I'll have to post it. Truly truly a giggle.
Going after the nun later today. I hope I'll be painting soon. ;-)
Hi Janice, I hope you're feeling better. Thank you so much for sharing this piece of magical goodness. You're right, you can feel the warmth inside the house and smell the awesome goodness of fresh gingerbread baking. Great way to start a week!
ReplyDeleteHi all- still under the weather. Thanks for your good wishes. I hate it when the mind is willing and the body won't go. ;-) Ugga bugga.
ReplyDeleteJanice,
ReplyDeleteSorry you're still feeling icky. That house is beautiful—wow, N.O. with snow!
Oh, to be one of those kids who's never seen the stuff before, just for those first five magical minutes. That is the definition of sheer delight.
You just let life win for a while. After all, the will and the art win often enough. It's only fair that life should want a little of its own back.
Rest and restore. :)
Regards,
Kelly
Janice,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful image! Snow in a tropical town. Sounds like the title of a short story. Enjoy it while it lasts, and if you ever feel the need for more wintry weather, c'mon up to New England! Just bring your own shovel ;)
Do you still have the sniffles?
ReplyDelete:(
Oh, that's HILARIOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteTo us, that's just a dusting.
But it must have paralyzed your whole city!
